We are very pleased to announce that we will be having a Club Competition this year. As everyone knows, due to COVID lockdowns we did not have a competition in 2020, but if you want to see the highlights and be inspired from our 2019 club competition, click here.
This year, we will be hold two competitions, a Singles and Doubles competition, full details as below.
General competition rules
Please note, this club competition is only open to current club members, i.e. anyone who has played at least once at our club session on or before 22nd August 2021.
Also, importantly please note all entries MUST be in by the deadline of Sunday 22nd August 2021.
This club competition is only open to those aged 18 years and above.
All competition dates below are subject to change and COVID safety rules and guidelines in place at the time. This could also mean that the club competition is cancelled if there is another COVID lockdown in place in the winter, or for any other reason.
A fixed non-refundable fee of £5 per person per competition entered will be charged. This is to cover cost of equipment and competition prizes. The fee will be payable before Round 1 of the relevant competition you have entered into. We will only refund the fee if we cancel the competition for any reason.
The competition venue will be Haydon School and St. Helen’s. If this changes we will advise all participants who have entered the competition.
Men’s Singles competition
Key dates
- Wednesday 22nd & 26th September 8pm to 10pm & Sunday 26th September – 2pm to 4pm – Round 1, click here.
- Wednesday 29th September – 8pm to 10pm – Quarter finales and Semi finales
- Sunday 3rd October – 1pm to 3pm – Third place playoff
- Monday 11th October – 8pm to 10pm – Grand final followed by Award ceremony
- On the dates above some courts will be for competition play only, while other courts (if any) will be available for normal play.
Singles competition rules
- Normal badminton singles game rule will apply to all games
- Round 1 will be a knock-out match of 1 game
- Quarters, Semis, Third place playoff and Singles Grand Final will be best of 3 games per match
- Please ONLY enter singles competition if you can play on the dates above. If you are not able to play on the dates required, you will forfeit your match and not progress any further in the competition.
- There are up to 16 places in the singles competition available, allocated on a first come first serve basis. Therefore, we recommend early registration.
Women’s Singles competition

- Wednesday 6th October – 8pm to 10pm – Round 1
- Sunday 10th October – 1pm to 3pm – Quarter finales and Semi finales
- Monday 11th October – 8pm to 10pm – Grand final followed by Award ceremony
- Wednesday 13th October – 8pm to 10pm – Third place playoff
- On the dates above some courts will be for competition play only, while other courts (if any) will be available for normal play.

Doubles competition rules
- Normal badminton doubles game rule will apply to all games
- You will be assigned a playing partner through a random draw which will take place during our club session on Wednesday 25th August (or as advised by the club organisers)
- Round 1 will comprise of up to 8 groups of 3 teams each. Each team within the group will play the other two teams, one match best of 1 game. The team with the highest wins (or in event of a tie, the team with the highest score tally across all three games in the group) will be the group winners, and progress to the Quarter finals.
- Quarters, Semis, Third place playoff and Doubles Grand Final will be best of 3 games
- Please ONLY enter doubles competition if you can play on the dates above. If you or your partner (once assigned) are not able to play on the dates required, please inform us ASAP so that we can re-assign playing partners (if possible). If not possible, you will forfeit your match and not progress any further in the competition.
- There are up to 48 places in the doubles competition available, allocated on a first come first serve basis. Therefore, we recommend early registration.
General notes for doubles competition
- Once you are assigned a playing partner, please use some of the normal club sessions to practice your playing strategies and techniques with them.
