Play Badminton Club March 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to our March 2025 newsletters!

We are excited to try out this new initiative as a means of highlight the various activities going on in our Club.

March 2025 was a very exciting and activity packed month for the Club. Here are a few highlights from the month.

International Women's Day 2025

International Women's Day (marked on March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. Our members helped highlight this year's theme of Accelerate Action.

Focusing on the need to Accelerate Action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.

Women's Doubles Competition 2025

Play Badminton Club held a Women's Doubles' Competition in March 2025, as part of marking International Women's Day!

There was a big interest in this years tournament, where we had 22 ladies competing. A lot of them play in different sessions during the week, so we offered them practice sessions to get a chance to meet and play. The matches took place over three different venues!

Following the Round Robin stage, we had knock-out quarter finals, followed by semi-finals and finals on super Sunday (as there were Vegan League matches on that day too). The games had brilliant rallies, with some beautiful net shots. The ladies dug deep, for motivation and energy, they were cheered on by the wonderful audience.

A huge congratulations to our champions Bijal and Vani, and our runner-ups, Rachel and Rakhee; and Trisha and Ritu for securing Third place.

Well done to all participants in the 2025 Women's Doubles Competition!!

Yonex All England Championship 2025

The Yonex All England Championship took place from 11th to 16th March 2025 in Birmingham.

It was a trilling championship with excellent matches from the world's best badminton players.

We had a opportunity to take 30 badminton students from Haydon School to the Championships. The students also got a change to meet Sean Vendy, England's silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games, and Peter Emptage, Chair of Badminton England!

Friday Morning Session Social

Towards the end of March, Vernon and Sandra, our regulars at the Friday morning Senior's session at South Oxhey, arranged a lovely social evening for the Friday morning session players.

Many attended with the spouses too, and it was great to get to know more about everyone off court!

Vegan Badminton League

Our teams are continuing their form, with PBC Racketeers securing a 9-0 victory over Barnet North London Badminton Club. While the results was very much one-way there were many unforced errors on our part, which we need to train and practice a little more to reduce. This was help us in the long-term when faced with more challenging opponents. Overall, it was a good evening and we made some new friends and enjoyed playing in a new venue. Well done everyone!

Children's coaching session term ends

Our winter term for Children's badminton coaching came to an end in March 2025.

We had three session per week for children's coaching. We had many children, learning different aspects of badminton from shots to tactical development.

Some of the junior members had come with us to the Yonex All England Championships in Birmingham, and shared their experience with other children.

It was great to hear about inspiration the All England had given the children, and all are looking forward to a Children's competition later in the year.
